Day One

My first day in Roma! Can you imagine? Lil’ ole me wandering the cobbled streets of Rome? Making new friends and having grand ole time!
Granted my girl and I spent all of our Saturday on planes and airports but it was well worth it, and added to that we had an interesting time in those airports. My girl actually made friends and talked with strangers. We met an Indian woman heading back to India for a funeral and then Jazz got bombarded by two strange men in Tronto! One had a bright orange mohawk while the other had neon pink hair! They obviously liked her for her hair….and the fact that I match said hair.

Then we had a panic inducing morning in Roma. My poor girl started to panic when she couldn’t find anyone but after several deep breathes we managed to find who we were supposed to be meeting with.( Unfortunately we still haven’t been able to take the train because of an accident somewhere along the rails.)
Church of Sant'Ignazio Di Loyola
After we settled into our hotel and explored said hotel we were ready to take over Roma (along with our classmates/friends). In an effort to find a cheap lunch we came across the Pantheon, Piazza Navona (Jazz was too starved and tired to take pictures of the Piazza), Temple Adriano, and finally the Church of Sant’Ignazio Di Loyola.

Now after a well deserved nap my girl and I set out to dinner with the rest of our class and professors, but much to my annoyance I had to set on the floor with her knapsack out of politeness….the nerve of some people! However, the waiters were very kind and kept my girl and her classmates well entertained with hand slaps and shots of local alcohol…tasted like lemon drops and licorice. Granted it wasn’t enough to get them drank I made sure I was DD for the night….don’t want anything horrendous to happen on our first night here.

Of course being in Roma we had to go to the Fontana di Trevi. Jazz made sure we both made wishes as well as taking a million and some photos. The only thing, other than seeing such a wonderful attraction and historical monument, was when the for hire photographers started to flirt with our all female group and asking for photos. Granted we turned them down but they still talked to us and told us different places we needed to see….we even had one of the girls being stalked by the side street sellers to purchase a large purse. They started out at 35 euro and progressively dropped to 12.20 euro. It was quiet entertaining though albeit annoying!

You can find these types of drinking fountains everywhere

With love,
M.D. and Jazz
